Less Oversight for Firearms in Ohio Schools

Introduced on 2.9.21 by sponsor Rep. Thomas Hall (OH 53) and referred to the Criminal

Justice Committee on 2.10.21.


This bill proposes:

  • Expressly exempts a “person authorized to go armed within a school safety zone” from satisfactorily completing an approved basic peace officer training program.

  • Requires a “person authorized to go armed within a school safety zone” to successfully complete firearms training that meets or exceeds the training requirements for a concealed handgun licensee.


Noted in the Ohio Legislative Service Commission analysis Is: NO LOCAL COST which is a debatable point.


The bill was heard at two Justice Committee meetings held on 4. 4.21 and 4.17.21. In both hearings only witnesses who supported the bill testified. The next hearing is 4.15.21.
